Sausalito

Marin
A quaint and intimate Marin County town, Sausalito once served as a distant oasis for bootleggers during the Prohibition Era who were drawn to its geographic positioning, waterways, and culture.
Thriving shipyards occupied the waters of Richardson Bay during World War Two, but were eventually abandoned. Making use of the empty space, San Francisco's beatniks and hippies flooded the vacant shipyards throughout the 50s and 60s, often building homes aboard deserted boats, ferries and barges, giving birth to Sausalito's original houseboat community. Today, historic relics of the early days wade beside floating homes of various shapes, sizes, values and luxuries.

Sausalito's vibrant and diverse culture attracts young professionals, retirees and empty-nesters alike, and with its small-town ambiance coupled with well-designed commercial centers, there’s something for everyone here.
Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” was written right here. Enough said.
With San Francisco just minutes away by car, ferry, or public transportation, world-class views and quaint, European feel, Sausalito continues to draw creatives, executives, and dreamers alike.
